Package dimensions - so that real-time rates can calculate dimensional weights and carriers can reject packages that are too big (for instance USPS will not accept a package that is over 60" long) 2.) Offer the customer all shipping options which match, not just the first carrier that matches, i.e. the ability to offer UPS and USPS with real-time rates and let the customer choose. 3.) Limit certain zones in combination with certain products to specific carriers. For instance, I would like all US shipments to go UPS because I get a bulk discount from UPS. However for international shipments USPS is much less expensive for the customer, so I would like to offer that. The one exception is that some of my international shipments are over-sized for USPS, and therefore I must use UPS. Since Ecwid doesn't know about my over-sized items, without some better control of shipping options, my customer might place an over-sized international order using USPS and I get stuck with the extra $150 cost of shipping by UPS because USPS can't accept the over-sized package. In summary: can we have - specific shippers for specific products going to specific zones, package dimension info presented to carriers' real-time rate APIs, and offer customers multiple carriers real-time rates, not just the first match.

blind mellow jelly said:

Mike- we do use that work-around, but there is a big problem if you also ship USPS. For example, we ship internationally with Priority Mail International, because it's much less (and easier) than the private carriers. PMI doesn't have the balloon charge at 3 cubic ft, that UPS and FedEx have, so our international shipping is based on weight alone. Our oversize parcels weigh about 6 lbs. Our international customers see the weight we assign for domestic UPS dimensional oversize shipment (approx. 38 lbs), and that blows shipping out of the water.

blind mellow jelly tag:ideas.ecwid.com,2008-02-07:Event/11360787 2012-05-16T17:17:24-07:00 2012-05-16T17:17:24-07:00 add API to update/add products [updated]
The REST API currently only has GET methods to fetch product information etc. It is really incomplete unless it is possible to add / modify and delete products / orders through the API. Back- ordering an out of stock item? Queue orders and allow to release to process CC after in stock would be ideal. Or Email to customer once in stock? Odds of closing sale go down. Or force by SKU to manual CC processing thereby not charging the customer until in stock? I do not have the solution but think that pre-order without charging could be a tremendous marketing and operational tool. There seems to be 3 or more other threads that embody the same idea. Can we consolidate to a single idea / request?

Dmitry said:

Dmitry tag:ideas.ecwid.com,2008-02-07:Event/11339119 2012-05-13T06:55:44-07:00 2012-05-13T06:55:44-07:00 When sharing a Facebook store (or category, or product) on a page wall, generate a thumbnail and shop title on the link. Customers often fill the order form with errors that may affect the value of the order and time of its execution. And no big corrections administrator, would reduce this impact to a minimum. You can of course delete the order and ask to legalize it again, but I do not think this is a sure way out of the situation. [updated]
We ship perishable products and want to restrict UPS ground shipping to customers who can get our product within 2 days. At the moment, we can create a our own method and tied it to a "ground only" zone, but we lose the carrier calculate shipping rate capability. For instance, T-Shirt has an option of long sleeve (additional $5). As of now customer picks an option and sees +$5 next to it. The price remains the same and will only change when the item is added to a cart. The idea is that the price adjusts automatically as soon as option is picked. This idea is particularly important when there are a few options affecting the price (long sleeve, colors, etc) and customer has to add everything himself.
